Sentinel Series
The Sentinel Series is based on a figurative form and uses the Crucifixion as a metaphor for duality—human versus deity, body versus soul. The feet are shown nailed or tied together but can also be read as feminine, pointed toes. Each figure is topped with a kind of crown of thorns.
I think of the painting as the body. Through the painting process, shapes like leaves, flowers, and branches often emerge. These natural forms bring to mind regeneration, life, and the feminine.
